Project Information

Project overview

In response to growing demand for flexible, skill-based learning, the project aimed to design a fully online suite of micro-credentials that could serve as both a professional development resource and a strategic revenue generator. Developed in partnership with subject matter experts, these asynchronous, 1–2 hour courses provide targeted, stackable learning opportunities in high-interest areas such as leadership, digital communication, inclusion, and instructional design. Hosted on a digital badging platform, the micro-credentials not only support Cabrini University’s mission of developing purpose-driven leaders but also open new pathways for adult learners while generating sustainable, mission-aligned revenue streams.

Project challenge, solution & result

The client, an educational institute aiming to expand lifelong learning opportunities, lacked accessible, targeted professional development options for adult learners. Their existing training offerings were time-intensive, outdated, and lacked flexibility—resulting in low engagement, limited skill application, and missed opportunities to support a diverse learner base.

The overall challenge was to design a series of engaging, research-based micro-credentials that provide flexible, accessible professional development for a diverse audience of adult learners. Each credential needed to deliver meaningful, stackable learning experiences that empower participants to apply new skills in real-world contexts.

Content Creation for the Digital World

Develop a micro-credential tailored for small to mid-sized businesses looking to strengthen their social media presence and elevate digital communication skills. The focus was on creating engaging, strategy-driven content that combines effective writing, media integration, and core web design principles to build a compelling and consistent online presence.

Social Change Model of Leadership

Develop a micro-credential that introduces learners to the Social Change Model of Leadership in a way that is accessible, engaging, and relevant to both personal growth and community impact. The goal was to create an interactive, values-driven learning experience that empowers individuals to become courageous leaders while drawing meaningful connections to Mother Cabrini’s legacy and mission.

Social Emotional Learning

Design a micro-credential that helps educators intentionally integrate Social Emotional Learning (SEL) into everyday instruction, moving beyond isolated interventions to embrace SEL as a foundational component of all learning. The challenge was to create a concise, engaging course that addresses the “hidden curriculum” in higher education and empowers educators to foster more inclusive, empathetic, and emotionally intelligent learning environments.

Universal Design for Learning

Design a micro-credential that equips educators with the tools and understanding to humanize online learning environments through Universal Design for Learning (UDL). The challenge was to create an engaging, research-informed experience that empowers instructors to make their courses more inclusive, empathetic, and accessible by addressing the diverse needs of all learners.

The solution was to develop a suite of interactive, 1–2 hour asynchronous micro-credentials that combine expert insights, multimedia content, and practical applications. Designed to be flexible, stackable, and accessible, each credential equips learners with relevant, actionable skills aligned with today’s professional and personal growth needs.

Content Creation for the Digital World

We designed an interactive micro-credential that guides learners through the fundamentals of strategic content creation for digital platforms. The course combines multimedia elements, real-world examples, and practical activities to help small and mid-sized business professionals enhance their social media presence. By integrating effective writing techniques, media use, and basic web design principles, the credential equips learners with the tools needed to create engaging, audience-focused content that drives ongoing engagement and visibility.

Social Change Model of Leadership

We designed an interactive micro-credential that guides learners through the core principles of the Social Change Model of Leadership, emphasizing leadership as a collaborative and values-based process. The course features four modular units combining multimedia content, reflection activities, and real-world applications to help participants internalize the 7 Cs of the model. Special attention was given to connecting the model to Mother Cabrini’s global impact, encouraging learners to explore how they can lead with courage and purpose in their own communities.

Social Emotional Learning

We developed an interactive micro-credential that equips educators with practical strategies to embed Social Emotional Learning (SEL) into their everyday teaching practices. The course emphasizes the importance of recognizing and shaping the “hidden curriculum” by integrating SEL into content delivery, classroom culture, and student engagement. Through multimedia resources, reflection prompts, and real-world examples, the credential helps participants create emotionally supportive learning environments that promote student well-being, connection, and academic success.

Universal Design for Learning

We created an interactive micro-credential that introduces educators to the principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and its application in humanizing online instruction. Through expert-led modules, multimedia resources, and actionable strategies, participants learn how to design inclusive content that supports diverse learning needs. The course emphasizes conveying empathy, presence, and accessibility in virtual classrooms, helping educators intentionally build meaningful and supportive learning experiences for all students.

The micro-credential series launched successfully, attracting a wide range of adult learners and professionals seeking to upskill in key areas. Participants reported increased confidence, practical knowledge, and a strong appreciation for the flexibility and relevance of the content, with many continuing their learning journey by stacking multiple credentials.

Content Creation for the Digital World

The micro-credential successfully launched with strong engagement from professionals across various small and mid-sized businesses. Participants reported increased confidence in their ability to create compelling digital content and apply best practices in social media and web communication. Early feedback highlighted the course’s clarity, interactivity, and immediate applicability, positioning it as a valuable tool for upskilling in today’s digital landscape.

Social Change Model of Leadership

The micro-credential launched successfully and received positive feedback from a diverse group of learners, including students, educators, and community leaders. Participants reported a deeper understanding of the Social Change Model and felt more equipped to apply its principles in their personal and professional lives. The course effectively fostered reflection, inspired purposeful action, and strengthened Cabrini’s mission of developing values-driven leaders committed to creating positive social impact.

Social Emotional Learning

The SEL micro-credential received strong participation from faculty and educators seeking to enhance their classroom environments. Participants reported increased awareness of the emotional dynamics within their teaching and greater confidence in applying SEL strategies across disciplines. The course fostered meaningful reflection and practical implementation, contributing to more inclusive, supportive, and student-centered learning experiences. Many learners also expressed interest in stacking this credential with related badges, further deepening their professional development journey.

Universal Design for Learning

The UDL micro-credential was successfully implemented and received high praise from educators seeking to enhance inclusivity in their online teaching. Participants reported increased confidence in applying UDL principles and making intentional design choices that promote student engagement and accessibility. The course contributed to a noticeable shift in how instructors approached online learning, with many adopting more empathetic, learner-centered practices. Additionally, several participants chose to stack this credential with related badges, expanding their impact and professional development.
